Today, self love is define as having an appreciation, an affinity and a positive regard for yourself. It's closely related to self-esteem or self-compassion. When you have a strong sense of self-love you understand your value, and you begin to treat yourself in a loving way. That's not a bad definition, but there's more to it. Narscism is a much different concept all together. We do have problems with it our world. Self love is a positive trait. That means, it helps us with well being, with our mental fitness, and it helps us in our relationships when we begin to love ourselves.
Why is self love important? Loving yourself does not mean that you don't hold yourself to a high standard. It doesn't let you "off the hook." Loving yourself should raise the standard higher. In other words, we want to be more like Jesus than we've ever been before. Pastor Ron continues the message discussing our problem (Roman 8:13-14; 11:29; John 14:6). Then he goes on to explain who each of us are. We are "God's work of art!" (Ephesians 2:8-10; Proverbs 19:8; James 2:8)
Pastor Ron presents this message, entitled: "Self Love - Godly or Evil?" first at New Beginning Fellowship Church and then again at Shekinah Fellowship Church. In fact as of January 2024, Pastor Ron has started a book on very same subject.
