The Amazing Race series is lightly
connected to the recent television reality show by that name. We are
all in a race. We are not in the preliminaries or the arms ups of the
race, we are in the race! The writer of Hebrews 12:1 describes it as a race where there is a "great cloud of witnesses"
watching us as we run with perseverance our leg of the race. Those
"witnesses" are the many people of faith that have lived their life, run
their race and are now in the great grandstands watching us and rooting
us on to victory. You may think of the great Apostle Paul or Peter, or
maybe a former pastor that has gone on to be with the Lord that had
influence in your life. These are the kind of witnesses that are
watching us from the great grandstands. The writer of Hebrews compares
our race to the greatest race runner of all time, our Lord Jesus Christ,
who endured all He did for us so that we can be on the winning side.
